If you want to learn more about it, consider its advantages, function, and types.

What is horizontal mill machining?

According to About Mechanics, milling machines are used to cut away material from one end until the desired product is reached. They may also drill or form contours. Vanderslice Machine Company, Inc.’s horizontal CNC mill is rigid and can take on even the most demanding projects due to its construction.

When it comes to milling machines, horizontal mills offer some advantages over other types.

One advantage is that they tend to be more versatile due to their configuration. This means they can be used to create a variety of parts, both large and small.

How does a horizontal milling machine work

Our Toyoda horizontal milling machine has a spindle that is parallel to the table. The cutter is mounted so that the tool is perpendicular to the tombstone moving along the X and Y axis. The table can be moved in both the Z and B axis.

The tool and spindle move at high speed. A variable speed drive can control the RPM of the tool. The depth of the cut is controlled by adjusting the table or tombstone in the Z axis. When cutting, the workpiece is first clamped to the table. Then, the cutter is programmed to meet the desired cut.

The cutter removes material from the workpiece. The chips are collected in a chip tray. When the cut is complete, the tool is withdrawn back to the carousel and the table moves to the next position.

Horizontal Milling Machine Types

There are several different types of machines for horizontal milling services, each with advantages.

  • Plain horizontal milling machine.
The spindle on this machine is parallel to the table. The cutter can move in both X and Y axis that is perpendicular to the tombstone. The table can be moved in either the Z and B axis direction. Usually, there is a power feed to move the workpiece automatically.
  • Universal horizontal milling machine.
This machine has a spindle that can be tilted to create a spiral motion. It also has a back gear mechanism to give it more versatility. The table can also be swiveled so you can make 4 or 5 axis angular cuts at the same time.
  • Turret horizontal milling machine.
The spindle is mounted on a turret so the cutter can have different angles. The table can be moved in different directions too.

We also offer Doosan, Haas, and other Toyoda mills which are one of the most adaptable and precise types of equipment available. They can be used to create a wide variety of parts, from small components to large ones. And because they’re computer-controlled, they can make very precise parts and hold very tight tolerances.

Fourth axis horizontal milling machines give you more capability than your normal 3 axis CNC mills. They have an extra axis that allows them to make cuts at different angles. This makes them ideal for creating complicated shapes.

Our Toyoda, Doosan and Haas mills are tough and can handle even the most demanding projects. And because they use only the highest quality components, you can be confident that your mill will provide years of trouble-free operation.
